Wrapping Up Our First Senior School Trip to Taiping!
Our very first SITI Network Senior School Trip to Taiping was an unforgettable experience, filled with shared laughs, new friendships, and cherished memories! The journey began bright and early as we picked up our enthusiastic group from two meeting points, setting the tone for a day of adventure, connection, and learning.
Breakfast on the Move
Our wonderful retiree chef, Jasinta, had prepared a wholesome breakfast of egg mayo sandwiches, buttery cake, and Mdm Cheah’s beloved nyonya kuih, which quickly became a hit. We enjoyed this on the bus, fueling up for the day ahead while the group practiced songs for our upcoming performance, filling the bus with cheerful voices and a spirit of camaraderie.
A Taste of Taiping
Our first stop was the bustling Larut Matang Food Court, where everyone enjoyed a variety of hawker delights. We couldn’t leave without picking up over 30 of the famed Taiping long steamed buns, or *pau*, adding a special treat to our journey.

Discovering Heritage at Antong Coffee Mill
Next, we explored the Antong Coffee Mill, Malaysia’s oldest coffee mill. Walking through the coffee museum and learning about their traditional coffee-making process was a treat for the senses, and we couldn’t resist stocking up on fresh coffee! Before leaving, our group delighted the locals with an impromptu performance, adding a splash of joy to the day.

Connection and Collaboration Over Lunch
The main event of our trip took place at the Grand Baron Hotel, where we met with the Taiping NGO DUIT (Dementia Untuk Insan Terpilih) for a delightful networking lunch and skill-sharing session. The talented Toh Puan led a nasi ulam demonstration, sharing secrets behind this iconic dish.
Our Penang team then took the stage, performing and singing a selection of 16 songs, drawing smiles and applause from the Taiping crowd. A special bingo game, organized by our meal sponsor, B-Effect, added a lighthearted touch, with questions centered around kidney health.

A Step Back in Time
In the afternoon, we visited a traditional biscuit factory that uses large metal cans and coconut shells to bake their delicious treats—a technique dating back to the Tang Dynasty. It was fascinating to see how this age-old method is preserved and practiced today, and we left with a few treats in hand.
Unwinding at Spritzer EcoPark
Our next stop was the scenic Spritzer EcoPark, where we took a leisurely stroll surrounded by nature, snapping group photos and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. This short break gave us a chance to relax and take in the beauty of Taiping.
Final Stop: Taiping Lake Gardens
As the sun began to set, we made our way to the iconic Taiping Lake Gardens for one last group photo against the lush rainforest backdrop. The sight of ancient rain trees stretching over the lake was a fitting end to a day rich with new experiences and beautiful sights.
Dinner and Goodbyes
We wrapped up our day with a delicious dinner at Prima Food Court, reflecting on the highlights and laughter we had shared. The joy and warmth of the day lingered as we boarded the bus back, hearts full and spirits high.
Final Reflections
Traveling together, we rediscovered the joy of new experiences—seeing the world with fresh eyes and embracing Taiping’s sights, sounds, and flavors. This trip wasn’t just about visiting new places; it was about creating lasting connections and memories that we’ll carry forward.
From learning about traditional crafts and cooking methods to sharing skills, laughter, and songs, each moment reminded us of the beauty in exploring life’s paths, old and new.
As we made our way back home, we left not only with souvenirs and photos but with friendships and insights that made this journey truly meaningful. At SITI Network, we believe it’s never too late to explore, to learn, and to make new friends. Here’s to many more adventures together!
