Her Story
A Life of Dedication
Forty years ago, Mdm Nellie Tay retired as a beautician. Since then, she has channeled her energy into helping others through her love of crafting. From 2003 to 2012, she volunteered at the Adventist Craft Centre and has been with the Wan Ching Yen Craft Centre since 2012.
Passion for Craft
Nellie’s hobbies include sewing, quilting, and bag making. She guides members in these crafts, creating items for sale to benefit the Wan Ching Yen old folks' home. Her efforts have significantly supported the home's operations over the years.
Making an Impact
In 2012, Nellie and three other committee members revamped the craft centre, recruiting members and raising funds for sewing machines and other essentials. Their teamwork has been crucial in sustaining the centre’s activities and contributions.
Memorable Experiences
One of Nellie’s proudest achievements is revamping the Wan Ching Yen Craft Centre. The initial stages involved recruiting members and fundraising, which has led to a thriving community of crafters dedicated to supporting the old folks' home.
Staying Active
Nellie remains active by participating in weekly group sessions at the craft centre, socializing in the park, and engaging in singing and aerobics. This active lifestyle keeps her connected and energized.
